Course Information
Description Life-Span Growth and Development is a study of social, emotional, cognitive and physical factors and influences of a developing human from conception to death.

COURSE STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

1. Describe the stages of the developing person at different periods of the life span from birth to death.  Measured by course assignments and activities. 

2. Discuss the social, political, economic, and cultural forces that affect the development process of the individual. Measured by course assignments and activities. 

3. Identify factors of responsible personal behavior with regard to issues such as sexual activity, substance abuse, marriage and parenting. Measured by embedded test questions, course assignments and activities. 

4. Explain the biosocial, cognitive and psychological influences throughout the lifespan as an ongoing set of processes, involving both continuity and change.  Measured by course assignments and activities 

5. Describe the different developmental perspectives of the major theories of development (i.e. cognitive, learning, humanistic and psychodynamic). Measured by course assignments and activities  

6. Identify examples of some of the cultural and ethnic differences that influence development throughout the lifespan. Measured by embedded test questions, course assignments and activities. 

7. Discuss the various causes or reasons for disturbances in the developmental process. Measured by course assignments and activities.

GRADING POLICY: Your final course letter grade will be based on an approximate percentage of 1000 total required points as follows:

4. All exam, quiz, assignment and project scores will be used in calculating your course grade. No course activity scores or grades will be dropped with the exception of practice activities which will not be included in calculating your final course grade.

9. Plagiarism, written or oral, will result minimally in failure of the assignment (1st offense) and failure of the course (2nd offense).

10. Attendance or participation in class activity is expected daily and punctual.

11. The instructor expects that students will display mature behavior in online activities. This includes being responsible for your actions and treating your classmates, instructor and yourself with respect at all times. Failure to do so may result in your removal from the classroom or the course.

12. Instructor requires all written assignments be typed using Microsoft Office Word Application-file format doc or docx and submitted to appropriate Blackboard assignment submission upload page.

13. Plagiarism in this class will not be tolerated. Any assignment submitted that contains plagiarism will earn an automatic zero. Further action may be taken as determined by the instructor.

15. The instructor will deal with non-compliance instructor policy components on a case-by-case basis.

16. Instructor will not accept resubmissions or corrected assignment documents.

17. The following materials are officially PROHIBITED in the classroom meetings for this course: food, drink, and tobacco. This policy agrees with official college policy.

19. All required and bonus quizzes and exams will be completed online using the Blackboard learning management system.

20. Students are required to know and practice the skill of creating and sending email messages. All email messages sent by students should be sent using the course email tool for the respective courses that the email messages pertain to.

21. The instructor created the psychology core assignment drafts 1,2 and 3 as well as the final version core assignment to be submitted as a series of 3 drafts and a final version so that section errors in the drafts can be corrected in the final version, based on feedback given on the earlier drafts.

22. If a document does not have a draft version, documents submitted and graded by the instructor retain the grades the instructor assigns to them.

23. Students should use their LSCPA email account to send messages to the instructor.

24. If you miss an exam or quiz, you must request an extension of the original availability period within 48 hours of the ending time of the exam or quiz availability. For example, if the original availability period ends at 11:59 pm on a Friday, you must request the extension by 11:59 pm on the following Sunday.No extensions for final exam or final quiz.

25. Any student requesting a disability-related accommodation such as additional online testing time is required to arrange such accommodations through the Office of Disability Services and the Disability Services Coordinator. Contact information for the Office of Disability Services is given in a different location in this document.

26. One-point course credit will be given to each late assignment received through Monday during week in which final exam is available, usually week 15 of semester.


Attendance Policy

Research has shown a strong positive relationship between attendance, participation and college success.

I strongly recommend regular participation in this course, both mental and physical.

Active participation will help you succeed in this course.

CAUTION: I will not automatically drop your name from the class roll because you do not participate in class activities.

MAKEUP WORK: Students who do not complete course work because of official college activities may make-up some of those assignment.

Student must obtain verification by means of a written message from a college official or sponsor before instructor will accept makeup work.
